S.Marotta Pottery offers Membership to potters! Sign up to enjoy the studio’s welcoming and functional space. Studio Membership is a great option for potters who will be spending more than 2 hours per week in the studio. For a monthly fee, you have up to 16 hours per month to access the studio. As a Member of the studio, you are committing yourself to a higher level of responsibility in the studio and are expected to participate in the maintenance of the studio space. You’re also encouraged to learn about and participate in the operations of the studio. As a Member of the SMP Studio, you are joining a group of dedicated and creative potters. The goal is to create a community of potters who share ideas, encourage one another, and who are dedicated to their communal space.
- How it works:
- Monthly fee of $185 gives you up to 16 hours of open studio time. Hours are available outside of regularly scheduled class time and include weekends. All hours must be logged into the Studio Time Log. Additional time over your 16 hours will be billed at $15/hour. Schedule your time in the studio using Setmore:

- Wheels, Slab Roller, Extruder, Studio Tools

- Studio clay is not included with Membership. Members must purchase their clay from the studio. The cost of clay includes bisque firing, studio glazes and glaze firing. No outside clay is allowed.Clay costs: $35 / 25# bag. Available options:
- BC-6, Idaho Buff SM, Oregon Brown. Other clay selections can be sourced and priced accordingly

- Members have access to brush on glazes
- Glazes and firing are included in the clay costs

- Your responsibilities as a Member:
- Cleaning the studio after use:
- Clean up wheels according to studio practice. Clean all tools before returning to storage location. Wipe down all splatters, including walls. Wipe down workbenches with a wet sponge. Clean floors with sponges or floor washer
- Cleaning the studio after use:
- Lower heat and turn off lights when leaving the studio. Help with regular maintenance as needed.
- Members are invited and encouraged to participate in kiln loading and unloading days, maintenance and any other advanced tasks in the studio.

- Prerequisites:
- You must complete at least one 6-week session of lessons and receive approval to become a Member. Depending on skill level achieved, a second session may be required to obtain Membership. Potters with outside prior experience must attend the Introductory Sessions course:
- Two 2-Hour Sessions: $120 This is a series of two 2-hour sessions that includes training and Open Studio Time. Instruction is not included. Learn the Studio Policies, Procedures, and become acquainted with the equipment in the studio. Depending on skill level observed during the session, an additional Introductory Session or a 6-week session of lessons may be required to obtain Membership.
- You must complete at least one 6-week session of lessons and receive approval to become a Member. Depending on skill level achieved, a second session may be required to obtain Membership. Potters with outside prior experience must attend the Introductory Sessions course:
- SMP reserves the right to revoke membership at any time if the Member fails to follow these guidelines and expectations.
